John Towers announced as new Head of Barrow Hills
Barrow Hills Preparatory School in Godalming, Surrey has announced that John Towers will become the school's next Head, taking up the appointment in September.
John has very successfully led Homefield Prep in Sutton, where he has been Headmaster for nine years.
Barrow Hills has been part of the Bridewell Royal Hospital Charity since 2015, when it merged to become part of the same foundation as senior school, King Edward's Witley.
John has over 30 years experience in both the independent and state education sector and has been a passionate campaigner for widening access to independent schools through the provision of transformational bursaries.
He said: "The brief for Barrow Hills was alluring, with a call to arms for a head to 'achieve even greater success' in a school 'for life'.
"Particularly appealing, for me, was the potential for service within a family-oriented prep supported by the collegiality of Bridewell."
He continued: "I was really impressed with the overarching mission of Bridewell.
"It dovetails nicely with work I've done with IAPS and HMC schools on widening bursaries.
"It is so important to be lined up with the ethics and character of the foundation you will champion."
Beyond school, John is also a Board Trustee of The RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) and served for seven years as a committee member of the Independent Schools Examination Board.
