Chigwell celebrates new sports centre
Chigwell School celebrated a new milestone in the construction of the school's new sports centre.
Building work has now reached the top of the new facility and a traditional topping out ceremony was held.
Once complete, the new building will be home to a 25m indoor swimming pool, a five-court sports hall, a climbing wall, a gym and cardiovascular suite, studios, and a café.
An essential part of this facility will be its use by the wider Chigwell community and members of the public.
Head Damian King said: "At Chigwell, we believe that sport supports the character development of our pupils.
"The new sports centre will be the hub of much activity; it will enhance not only our teaching and learning curriculum across all year groups but will bolster the school's co-curricular offer.
"We are keen to transform the strengths of our pupils into talents but more importantly provide a space that focuses on enhancing the well-being of our pupils, staff, and the entire Chigwell community."
Chigwell School's Chair of Governors, Roseanne Serrelli, commented: "We are delighted to see the sports centre take shape; this is an incredibly exciting time for the school as we push boundaries to provide the best possible resources and opportunities for our pupils.
"This significant milestone resembles the educational and growth milestones students reach during their journey in school.
"We would like to thank the McLaren project team and the Governors for their unwavering support and the time they continue to give to the school."
Darren Gill from construction group McLaren said: "It's a privilege to work on this exciting project for Chigwell School and to help it transform and inspire the students in their educational journey."
The building is scheduled for completion in the Autumn.
