Sunny Hill Prep is the junior section of Bruton School for Girls. It is a day school for girls and boys aged 2 – 7 and girls only day and boarding school from 8 – 11.
About the school
Sunny Hill Prep comprises the Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep. Boarding is available for girls from the age of 8 years old. Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes are co-educational until the age of 7.
The Early Years Foundation (Nursery to Reception) has an ‘Outstanding’ Inspection report (ISI). Boys and girls aged 2–7 are introduced to learning through games, forest school, music and dance. This, together with playing, climbing on the activity trail or exploring the beautiful surroundings, helps the children learn about the world around them. Girls only from Year 3, the Prep offers small class sizes and individualized attention to guide girls towards reaching their full potential.
A weekly enrichment programme of Forest School and outdoor learning, problem solving, English Speaking Boarding and Drama complements the main curriculum. There is a variety of extra-curricular clubs and activities at lunch and after school, and wrap-around care is available free of charge until 5.30pm to support busy parents.
Fiona Allen, a nursery assistant at Sunny Hill Nursery at Bruton School for Girls has become a published author, with her children’s book, The Stationery Drawer.
15th December 2020 — Fiona Allen, a nursery assistant at Sunny Hill Nursery at Bruton School for Girls has become a published author, with her children’s book, The Stationery Drawer.
The book tells the tale of an assortment of useless stationery items that have a life of their own and work together to foil a dastardly plan. The story teaches young readers that just because something is a little bent or broken it can still be useful.
Mrs Allen, who also has a daughter in Year 8 at the school was delighted to share one of the first copies of the book with the children she cares for in the nursery. She said: “The importance of being introduced to books at an early age cannot be underestimated. Children’s imagination, creativity and their grasp of vocabulary and language are hugely enabled by reading. It is an absolute joy to watch a child enjoying a book.”
The Stationery Drawer by Fiona Allen is available to purchase on Amazon.

Mrs Helen Snow, Head of Sunny Hill Prep said: “It was a wonderful afternoon, the children so enjoyed showing off all they’ve done in school during the Autumn Term to their Grandparents and special people in their lives. We pride ourselves on the close partnerships we enjoy between home and school, and it was lovely to extend this and for Grandparents to get involved.”
