Sherborne Prep is a leading independent day and boarding school, welcoming girls and boys from 2 years to 13 years old (boarding from 7-13 years old). The School is five minutes’ walk from the centre of the thriving town of Sherborne and sits in 12 acres of beautiful grounds. Sherborne Prep enjoys excellent transport links with a direct train to London Waterloo and several nearby airports. Sherborne Prep merged with Sherborne School in April 2021.
About the school
As a co-educational independent school the curriculum is broad, varied and stimulating with specialist teachers supporting and stretching pupils within sport, languages and music and the School runs the Physical Literacy (FMS) programme, placing importance upon an active and healthy lifestyle. The strong academic programme is supported by outdoor learning within a 22 acre site in Sherborne Castle grounds and enjoys close links with Sherborne School and Sherborne Girls.
The School’s Dragon values perseverance, honesty, kindness, generosity, awareness and independence are embedded in the School.
Most pupils join in Pre-Prep or year 3 but children are welcome to join all year groups, providing space is available. Scholarships are available and boarding starts from year 3 with most pupils moving onto well-known independent senior schools including the well-known Sherborne School and Sherborne Girls. On average 40% gain scholarships to their chosen future school.
Sherborne Prep is non-selective. Entrance is by interview with the Head and previous school report, plus informal assessment when pupils come in for a taster day before joining, to ensure that the school is the right fit and can meet the child's needs.
Most pupils start in the pre-prep or year 3 but there is a steady trickle joining from years 3 to 7. School is happy to consider new pupils all year round, not just those starting in the autumn term.
Academic, music, sport, art, DT and all-rounder scholarships available – school says ‘talent and enthusiasm are especially sought’.
The School occasionally holds traditional open day events. However, our usual practice is to arrange individual visits at a time suitable to prospective parents to give a tailored experience for families.
