The global pandemic has been hugely disruptive to pupils' education and the major impact that this has had on their learning meant A levels, EPQs and GCSEs have been assessed very differently this year, with public exams cancelled and teachers assessing students instead.

The pupils deserve much credit for coping so admirably with this change of circumstances and teachers for the enormous amount of work they have put into implementing this new system.

Despite the obstacles they have faced, LEH students gained places on a wide range of interesting courses.

Amongst the many high achievers were Caitlin, who rowed in the winning eight at the National Schools Championship at Henley this year and fulfilled her offer of a place at Oxford to read German and Spanish.

Emily is in the enviable position of having to choose between three fantastic options; she has an offer to study a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Central Saint Martins as well as Fashion Design at the prestigious Institut Français de la Mode in Paris and Parsons School of Design in New York, where she has been awarded a generous scholarship.

Andrea has won a coveted place at the University of Toronto.

Mrs Hanbury, Head Mistress said: "This has been such a challenging 18 months for students and staff alike.

"These excellent results are a tribute to the pupils' determination and application as they worked independently and with their teachers throughout two lockdowns.

"They will now go on to realise their aspirations, taking up places at their chosen universities.

"Those who have not received the results that they had hoped for are being provided with expert advice and guidance, and staff are working alongside pupils to ensure that they have access to the individual support they need."

She continued: "I would like to thank everyone who has played a part in ensuring the students' success, not only our teaching and non-teaching staff, but also parents and grandparents, who do so much to ensure the pupils are supported at home.

"This year has at times been filled with uncertainty, and I am so proud of the courage and resilience shown by LEH students.

"I wish them all every success in their future endeavours."
