Mount Kelly, set on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, combines academic excellence, an outstanding range of opportunities beyond the classroom and exceptional pastoral care. We are a fully co-educational School for children aged between 3 and 18 and offer day, weekly and full boarding.
About the school
We have high expectations and this encourages our pupils to believe in themselves, to be inquisitive, to be resilient and to show ambition both in and out of the classroom. Our pupils feel happy and valued, which in turn gives them the confidence, social awareness and enthusiasm for life-long learning needed to succeed in a fast changing world.
Respect for tradition and an openness to innovation are valued and we encourage our pupils to work with, and learn from each other, whilst also showing moral courage to stand up for what they believe. We are confident that we can challenge and develop all those who come to us at any age, stretching the most able whilst supporting those who occasionally need a helping hand.
Our academic staff, in collaboration with our on-site adventure centre, run the innovative and unique Learning Outside the Classroom Programme. Children in the Pre-Prep attend a weekly Forest School activity. The Shackleton programme is run for 9 to 13 year olds and is designed to give them increasingly challenging outdoor expeditions.
The school has an internationally recognised coaching facility for swimming. Our swimmers board and are taught alongside their contemporaries. This creates a culture in which the level of commitment and dedication required to excel are not considered out of the ordinary but are qualities to which everyone can aspire. The swimming programme has had alumni at the last five Olympic and Paralympic games.

Scholarships, Bursaries & Fees
Each year, Mount Kelly makes available a number of scholarships and awards to pupils hoping to join us in Year 9 or the Sixth Form. Scholarships and awards are competitive on entry, and provide exceptional opportunities for able pupils. Awards may be given in the following disciplines:
The number and size of awards in any particular year is at the discretion of the Head Master and all awards are reviewed annually.
For details of how to apply and to receive an application form please contact Vanessa Bowles in the Admissions Department on 01822 813193 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Applications for admission to the College are welcome for any year group and at any time of the year. A visit or taster day is always recommended and can be arranged at any time although we recommend that you visit during term time if you can. The Admissions Office is open throughout the year and we are always happy to discuss any aspect of the admission process. Where necessary we will arrange for a meeting with the Deputy Head, Academic particularly if you wish your child to join us after Year 10 and the start of the GCSE curriculum.
Mount Kelly is a non-selective school and we use assessments and previous school reports in order to place new pupils in the correct sets for each subject.
An Open Day for our Sixth Form is held in the Michaelmas Term to which you will be invited once your details are on our system. Members of academic staff for each of the subjects offered at A-Level will be available to discuss the course material and answer any questions you may have. It is most appropriate to attend the day in Year 11 but we welcome interest from children in Year 10.
Offers of places will be made based on predicted GCSE Grades and applicants will require at least a B Grade in their chosen A-level subjects. We will always request a full and comprehensive report from the current school.
If you are unable to attend the Open Day applicants are encouraged to arrange a tour of the school at which time an interview will be held and an academic consultation with the Assistant Head (Academic).
The Mount Kelly Foundation welcomes applicants who live overseas. Our vibrant and busy seven day a week boarding community allows pupils to fully integrate and make the most of all the excellent opportunities available at our school.
Mount Kelly has children who board from the age of 7 and we are therefore delighted to welcome enquiries from parents of younger children.
We have a limited number of places for short term applications at the College and these are usually for a minimum of two terms, however parents looking for an excellent opportunity for younger children to improve their English, at the Prep we are happy to offer single term places. We are sorry but we cannot accept short term applicants to start in the Lent Term of Year 11, we do however, offer a one year GCSE course for applicants who can demonstrate the academic ability with which to succeed in this demanding programme.
Parents living overseas must appoint a guardian for their son or daughter. The guardian will have authority to act on behalf of the parents if necessary and make arrangements for time away from school and travel.
At Mount Kelly we never forget what an enormous privilege it is for us to be chosen by you to care for your child often many hundreds of miles from home. Our Housemasters and Housemistresses will do everything they can to help your child settle in and make the most out of their time here. At Mount Kelly we expect every pupil to take an active part in the wide variety of opportunities available to them both in and outside the classroom.
