Moulsford is a thriving independent Prep School of boys aged 4-13 years, set in tranquil and picturesque grounds on the banks of the River Thames surrounded by the rolling hills of South Oxfordshire.
Parents are faced with so many choices when making decisions about their child’s education, and there is no doubt that choosing a school is a huge and emotional commitment.
At Moulsford, the message is straightforward. We want our boys to receive the broadest possible education, while remembering that they will learn best when happy and settled. Our down-to-earth, family-focussed approach embraces the fact that boys of this age should be having fun at the same time as learning.
About the school
As a school and as teachers, our goal is to engage, enthuse and inspire our boys in all that they do. From maths to music, reading to rugby, and chemistry to kayaking, we aim high and encourage boys to ‘go for it’ and give of their best in all that they do.
The best way to measure our success is to visit the school, soak up the atmosphere for yourself, and meet the boys and staff who make up our warm and very special community. You will find confident, self-assured, well-mannered boys who understand and appreciate their place in a fast-changing world, together with committed and talented teachers who provide excellent role models for them.
Whilst the majority of boys come in daily, our boarding house offers flexi and weekly boarding - the boarding ethos permeates through and touches all aspects of the school. As well as offering 'away from home' experience and promoting independence, this option also gives excellent preparation for those boys who may go on to boarding senior schools.
Besides gaining places at the UK’s leading senior schools, many with scholarships, Moulsford boys leave us with their feet firmly on the ground, and their minds set on making the very most out of their own talents and the opportunities that come their way.

Scholarships, Bursaries & Fees
The Governors of Moulsford Preparatory School are committed to broadening access to the school by offering to eligible parents/guardians means-tested financial support with the payment of fees. This opportunity is not unreasonably restricted. Such support is known as a Bursary and these may be awarded in the form of a discount of up to 100% on tuition and other fees payable, depending on the financial, compassionate or other pertinent circumstances of applicants.
Bursary awards are subject to repeat testing of parental means each year and may be varied upwards or downwards, depending on parental circumstances. Awards are made at the discretion of the Bursary Awards Committee, who will calculate award levels in relation to a family’s financial circumstances. Awards may be varied upwards or downwards depending on individual parents/guardians’ circumstances (e.g. their savings, investments and realisable assets, as well as their income, the size of their family, any other persons dependent upon them and like factors), compassionate or other pertinent considerations.
Requests for financial support usually fall into two categories:
1.New applicants to the school, where a place has been offered but parents/guardians are unable to fund the tuition fees and/or other costs in full or part.
2. Existing pupils where a change in parents/guardians’ circumstances has resulted in difficulty in meeting tuition fees and may result in the child being withdrawn part way through a stage of education.
A non-refundable fee of £75 is payable on submission of a registration form. Once the school has made a formal offer of a place, parents are required to sign and return a contract accepting the School’s Terms and Conditions. A deposit of £700, set against the final terms’ fees, is payable at this point in order to secure the place.

There are two main points of entry to Moulsford:
Reception at age 4+: There is no selection process at this stage, and entry is on a first come, first served basis, with a waiting list based on date of registration. Early registration is therefore advisable, as the class can be full well in advance. There is one class in Reception (Bobcats), Year 1 (Panthers and Pumas) and Year 2 (Lions and Leopards). Class groups expand to three forms per year for Years 3 – 8.
Year 3 at 7+: For boys joining us in Year 3, there is a formal entrance assessment which takes place in the November prior to entry the following September, and we also request a comprehensive report from the boy’s current school. The assessment morning consists of fun and informal Maths and English exercises, as well as involvement in various extra-curricular and PE activities. The aim is to establish how boys respond to the set tasks and the environment within their peer group. Moulsford is not overtly academically selective, however we do want to be sure that boys will not only cope but thrive here on an academic level.
One further option, subject to available places, is for boys to join us in Year 7 at 11+, as either day boys or weekly boarders, for two years of senior school preparation.
Spaces are occasionally available in other year groups – please contact the Registrar with any enquiries. For boys joining year groups other than via the process listed above, we would invite them in for a normal school day for assessment, prior to offering a place formally.
Once the school has made a formal offer of a place, parents are required to sign and return a contract accepting the School’s Terms and Conditions. A deposit of £700, set against the final terms’ fees, is payable at this point in order to secure the place.
