Bolton School Girls' Division

At Bolton School we help every girl discover her unique talents and strengths. Our staff are committed to developing in each girl the love of learning, creative independence and academic self discipline which will enable her to achieve excellent examination results. Our aim is to inspire in our girls the attributes, skills and values which will enable them to make informed choices, become responsible and principled citizens, enjoy successful careers and achieve personal fulfilment.

We understand that the best learning takes place when girls feel cherished, understood and secure. In our friendly and respectful, single sex environment, girls of all ages and backgrounds are free to relax and enjoy each other's company without feeling self conscious. They forge strong friendships to support and sustain them throughout their lives. They also have the opportunity to get to know members of the Boys’ Division through participation in extra-curricular activities alongside them.

Girls at Bolton School recognise how lucky they are to enjoy all the advantages of a supportive and inspirational educational environment with its superb facilities and exceptional range of extra-curricular activities; they value the importance of ‘giving back’ through participation in community action programmes, locally, nationally and abroad.

The best way to appreciate our school, is to visit us. The girls are terrific ambassadors and would love to show you their magical, uplifting surroundings as well as talk to you about the exceptional range of opportunities offered to them.

Scholarships, Bursaries & Fees

From September 2015, a number of new Scholarships became available to pupils entering the Girls’ Division in Year 7. These generous Scholarships are not means-tested and are awarded to those girls who, we believe, will make a strong contribution to the academic and wider life of the School.

The Scholarships are offered at the discretion of the Headmistress following the Bolton School Entrance Examination and Interview.

Further information and application forms to sit our Entrance Examination are available from Hannah Caulfield ( on 01204 840201 or by visiting the web page:

Financial Support

Bolton School is a fee paying school, but financial support may be available through the Bursary Scheme. The School has worked hard to raise funds for the scheme to enable talented youngsters whose parents would find it difficult to pay fees to attend the School; currently more than one in five of the pupils receives some form of fee assistance.

All bursaries are awarded on academic merit. They are means tested and available to a proportion of the entry at Years 7 and 12; in rare instances, some funding may also be available to applicants to other year groups. Financial support for a limited period of time may also be found for current students whose parents suffer subsequent hardship.

Enquiries about financial support can be addressed at any time to Miss Charlotte Nightingale, the Bursary Officer, on 01204 840201 ext 329, or contact her by email

Fees Information

Please note that lunch fees are included in the prices above.

Payment Options
A term's fees may be paid in a lump sum payment before the first day of term or, subject to a separate contractual agreement for that term, in four monthly instalments. Fees should be paid by direct debit. If you suffer a downturn in your financial circumstances while your child is at school, please contact the Clerk and Treasurer at the earliest opportunity, who will be sympathetic and may be able to help.

Every child stays for lunch, which is compulsory and is included as part of the school fees as outlined above. Meals are prepared on the premises and we provide varied menus to accommodate all tastes and diets. You are welcome to discuss any special dietary requirements with the Director of Catering.
