Mill Hill Belmont Prep School is part of a Foundation dating back to 1807, which also includes our Pre-Prep, Grimsdell; our Senior, Mill Hill School and The Mount, Mill Hill International. We’re only ten miles from central London and yet we have 35 acres of beautiful green space around us, with sports pitches, a nature reserve, woods to explore, and our own cross-country course; all of us feel better for such freedom to breathe.

About the school
Belmont pupils are always prepared to give things a go and their enthusiasm, energy and hard work is remarkable. Our academic curriculum is broad and ambitious and our co-curricular programme exciting. Whatever your child is learning our teachers will inspire and lead them to achieve their very best.
The three most important qualities we expect of all Belmontians are to be kind, try their best and embrace challenge, and we’re proud to say that the children more than live up to this.
Being co-educational means that our pupils are used to different views and approaches, and never feel that they have to follow a particular path because of their gender. Developing social skills in an environment that reflects society, alongside embracing diversity of opinions, leads to a more rounded world view and fuller emotional development.
We find that pupils do best in the nurturing environment of Belmont until the end of Year 8. With the best quality specialist teaching facilities, we prepare them for their move to Mill Hill School at 13+. We help them to develop confidence and self-esteem, and to become more socially assured and academically mature. Because our pupils are not required to sit an entrance exam for Mill Hill, moving on is a stress-free and positive experience for which they are completely ready.
We welcome 50-60 boys and girls into Year 3 to start at Belmont each year. They join us from our pre-prep school Grimsdell, and continue through Belmont up to Year 8 and join our Senior School, Mill Hill in Year 9.
Our main admission point is Year 7 (11+), where we increase the year group size, but occasionally we will admit additional children in other years – there are called ‘chance vacancies’.

The award of an Exhibition is made solely on the basis of music audition and/or academic performance in tests and an interview taken at the 11+. Awards are for the duration of the candidate’s time at Belmont (two years) and for the five years at Mill Hill School, provided that progress and conduct remain satisfactory.
The award of a bursary by the Mill Hill School Foundation is subject to the financial resources available at the time. Applicants will be asked to demonstrate financial need by completing a Statement of Financial Circumstances and awards can be up to 100% of the fee.
Belmont is a co-educational preparatory school for pupils aged 7 to 13. The main point of entry is at 11+ (Year 7).
In order to complete the admissions process all pupils will be interviewed and tested, and a reference will be requested from their current school.
Occasionally, we will admit additional children in Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 and Year 8, but our main admission point is Year 7 (11+), where we increase the year group size.

We welcome 60-70 boys and girls into Year 7 each year to join our current Year 6 children at Belmont. Your child will be in Year 6 when they sit their entrance exam.
There is a two-step entrance assessment (exam and interview) which takes place in November prior to entering the school in September of the following year.
When choosing a school, we encourage all parents and prospective pupils to attend one of our Open Events, so that they can find out more about the school and meet members of staff and current pupils. Individual tours can also be arranged by telephoning the Admissions Office.
